Recognizing the successes and contributions of individuals is important, not just to say thank you, but also to highlight the incredible work and talents that have taken place across the country in supporting the CSP. This is why we have a national recognition program.

The response to the requests for nominations for this past season was overwhelming. Excluding years of service awards, the committee reviewed more than 100 nominations. Ultimately, 70 awards to individuals and groups were approved.

With the cancellation of Altitude 2020, and therefore the national recognition ceremony, members may be wondering what will happen with respect to the distribution of these awards.

Zone and division presidents have been informed of the names of recipients for national awards. Zones that wish to, may announce the recipients’ names at a virtual gathering, or in another manner in accordance with provincial guidelines.

The physical awards are scheduled to be created and we will inform zone presidents when they are available from the national office. Any not distributed will be presented at the next national meeting where there is zone and/or division representation.

Should a zone choose to present awards, we ask that they be presented in a manner that recognizes patrollers and their achievements respectfully and that photos and/or videos be provided to national office for publication. A consolidated list of national award recipients will be published in 5/5 this fall.

Over the summer, we will be tweaking the program based on feedback received. The deadline for next year’s awards is tentatively set for February 15, 2021. We will also be looking for three new members of the recognition committee, as the terms for Ross Forbes, Marc Slabotsky, and Lori Natuik have come to a close. We thank them for their time, efforts, and input.

Have a safe summer, and stay tuned for more details on what’s to come next season.
