By Andrew Wytsma, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee member (andrew.wytsma@skipatrol.ca)
The committee has been having close discussions with co-EDs Mark Brown and Jean Rioux about the future of the CSP, and what role Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (EDI) plays as the CSP moves forward. We recognize that to continue serving the public at a high level, we must embrace a range of ideas and perspectives. If you have ideas or feedback on EDI please contact a member of the committee or your zone or division leadership.
The committee continues to develop an unconscious bias training module, targeting a roll-out in the fall of 2024. Stay tuned for further updates.
As the calendar turns to February, we recognize that February is Black History Month in Canada. The theme for the Black History Month 2024 is Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build. Across North America, the stories, history and voices of Black folks will be shared. We recognize the rich history of Black Canadians and appreciate the contributions of Black people to our nation’s growth and culture. The CSP EDI Committee is encouraging the CSP membership to engage with content in your local area, and to listen and learn from black voices in the community.
