By Kerri Loudoun, Communications and Marketing portfolio leader (kerri.loudoun@skipatrol.ca)

In an effort to streamline how members can view articles that appeared in past 5/5 newsletters or patrol bulletins, we will be changing how to access old articles at skipatrol.ca/newsletters.

What’s the difference between the different emails we receive?

Currently, CSP National sends out the following emails:

  1. 5/5 Newsletter – issued in English and French, to the entire membership.
    1. This is a collection of operational and special interest articles.
    2. Comes out monthly (around mid-month).
    3. All members are welcome to submit articles or topics to the Communications and Marketing portfolio they feel may be of interest to the full membership at any time throughout the year.
  2. Patrol Bulletins – issued in English and French, to the entire membership.
    1. These are stand-alone information items, usually of an operational nature.
    2. Typically, information is time-sensitive like important messages from the board of directors, the co-executive directors, or a member of the national management committee (portfolio leaders or key committee chairs).
  3. Need To Knows – issued in English and French, typically to a select group from the membership, but includes people across the country (not division- or zone-specific).
    1. These are stand-alone articles, usually of an operational nature but are most suited to executives at various levels.
    2. Generally, gets emailed to national directors, national management committee members, division presidents, zone presidents, and at times, patrol leaders.
    3. These often have instructions for steps to for recipients to complete some sort of action in their role.
    4. Topics could include particulars on name badge ordering, upcoming executive meetings or town halls, uniform ordering, pending training and education updates or upcoming policy changes.

What is changing on the skipatrol.ca/newsletter’s website?

We are currently storing all articles, from current and past newsletters, Need To Knows and Patrol Bulletins at skipatrol.ca/newsletter. But, we are simplifying things to only hold articles from the monthly 5/5 member newsletter and the Patrol Bulletins, as they apply to the full membership.

Past articles from Need To Knows will be archived on Microsoft Teams, which division presidents and zone presidents have access to. Given the nature of the operational information included in these emails, it’s not necessary to make these articles accessible to the full membership.

What if I want to get an old article that I cannot find on the newsletter website?

Please send a note to Kerri Loudoun (kerri.loudoun@skipatrol.ca) with your request. Be sure to give us the general topic of the article and language. If you know the author, include their first and last name as well. We will search the archives in WordPress and Microsoft 365, and either send you a link to the article, or a Word Doc version of it. NOTE: the Word Doc version will not have any images typically included, just the text.

Why are we making this change?

We understand that most of us don’t save the emails we receive from the CSP. And that is why we keep the same emails as articles on the newsletter page. However, we don’t want you to have to scroll through dozens of articles when you get to this page.

Our modernization efforts include helping to streamline the experience for our members with our website, and we feel that improving the navigation of the newsletter page is an easy way to continue moving toward our modernization goals.

Questions?

If you have any concerns regarding these upcoming changes, please contact Kerri Loudoun. We value your input, and we know we don’t always think of all user experience angles!
