By Kerri Loudoun, Communications and marketing Portfolio Leader (kerri.loudoun@skipatrol.ca)
Last month, we outlined the function of the CSP Financial Oversight Committee and who its current members are.
This month, we are profiling the CSP Information Technology (IT) Advisory Committee (ITAC). This article will outline the structure of the ITAC, its function and operation process, and who is on the committee.
ITAC: An overview
The ITAC advises on key digital services needs to ensure the CSP runs effectively as an organization. They stay up to date on best practices for IT of similarly sized not-for-profits, and collaborate with the portfolios of the CSP National Management Committee.
The committee is comprised of eight regular members and three board of director representatives, each with expertise in governance, project management and a wide variety of IT matters and experience.
The ITAC’s main goal is to provide guidance for the continual improvement of the CSP’s IT infrastructure and systems. It focuses on meeting the needs from the ground up: patrollers first, zone management second, and lastly national management.
Meeting structure and frequency
The ITAC is evolving past the idea of regularly scheduled in-person meetings. ITAC members are scattered across the country, and all have busy lives. IT is embracing Microsoft Teams channels and chats as its primary communication medium. Members can contribute ideas and comments continually, rather than waiting for scheduled or ad-hoc meetings.
Core responsibilities:
ITAC’s core responsibilities include:
- Generation and maintenance of an IT strategic plan providing direction to the IT implementation teams.
- Identifying and prioritizing solutions to gaps in our IT infrastructure.
- Investigating and analyzing solutions using a holistic approach.
- Providing the board of directors with recommendations, including detailed justifications.
How are committee members selected?
The committee is keen on streamlining the IT tasks that can burden our members. If you are interested in joining ITAC, contact the committee chair directly to discuss your interests and particular areas to which you feel you can contribute.

Below is a list of the current committee members. We asked each individual to share a little about themselves so you can get to know each person better.

Describe your fondest memory (so far) while volunteering with the CSP. I have decades of memories that fall into two categories: Moments of joy and moments of terror. Moments of joy, like powder days at Manning Resort, where we were had so much fun, we could not stop laughing as we skied down the hill. But also, the moments of terror, like days at Cypress Mt. when every bed was full and there was a new casualty standing at the door every time we turned around.
What ties all these memories together are the fellow patrollers I have shared them with. In both moments, nothing made me feel happier or safer than standing next to CSP members.

Describe your fondest memory (so far) while volunteering with the CSP. It is not a single event but a culmination of experiences. Having the opportunity to patrol at Lake Louise, the jewel of the Canadian Rockies, we are surrounded by beauty and amazing scenery. Nothing beats the view from the top of Whitehorn Mountain on a clear bluebird day.
What’s your go-to food item to order and consume at your resort/area? Days at Lake Louise are busy and unpredictable, so I rarely find enough time to order restaurant food. I typically pack my own lunch, and my go-to is a "build my own taco" kit, which I can stow easily in my pack and quickly nuke it in the millwright’s shack or the lodge. However, the tater tots at Temple Lodge are spectacular!
If you went back in time to talk to yourself in your first year with the CSP, what would you tell yourself? You will have some good days, and you will have some tough days. However, you are going to have so many amazing opportunities and experiences, meet so many great people, and you will develop long lasting relationships with some amazing friends. Enjoy the ride!
