The Banff Sunshine Village Slush Cup is all about who can cross an ice-cold pond (in the craziest costume) on skis or a snowboard. It’s hilarious, it’s cringe-worthy, and it’s the best entertainment in Banff and Lake Louise. Here’s what you need to know to get the most out of this neon, nutty, nailbiting, pond skimming event!
Bystanders can arrive anytime before noon and are encouraged to wear neon colors and party shirts. Uniquely shaped sunnies, banana costumes, colourful wigs, bikini tops, and retro ski fashion are also fan favourites.
Don’t forget to bring these crucial accessories:
- your favourite and funniest pair of sunglasses
- sunscreen (they don’t call it Sunshine Village for nothing)
- layers, prepared for a range of temperatures (you’re in the mountains, after all)
- a lawn chair or sit-upon
- snacks (don’t forget to pack out your waste and forgo feeding the wildlife)
- noisemakers of any kind — the noisier the better!
Want to compete? Here’s how:
- Arrive early (7:15 am) to snag a spot in line at the base of the Gondola.
- Register at the Sprung Structure Event Tent by 8:00 am to receive your Waiting Number Card, then wait for instructions.
- Make sure to have a piece of government-issued photo ID and a hilarious costume (with description).
The Sunshine Slush Cup Is Back on May 20!
